Well it was bound to happen eventually, but I'm glad it was sooner than later because now we know what's out here. We caught our first snake in Makerton yesterday. A 4 foot grey racer had made its home in my scrap wood pile and made an appearance while I was reorganizing. At the time we weren't sure if it was dangerous or not so we carefully disposed of it. For all those wondering, the only venomous snakes we have to worry about around here are rattle snakes, which should be easy to identify. All other snakes are fine, but even so, we would rather not be surprised by them. We got a brush cutter a couple days ago and will be using that to clear wide paths all around Snakerton so we won't have to wade through tall grass anymore.
